Courage brought freedom

The second promise of AA says, "We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness."

Courage Brought Freedom

enslaved not in one bottle
nor one shot...
enslaved to the numbness
an escape from reality
which I thought
would bring peace

this illusion led to more pain
a constant quest
for the ultimate buzz
which never came
just more confusion
more anger... more rage

freedom finally came
with admittance and acceptance
that I was a slave
a slave to alcohol
living in fear of feelings
avoiding... myself

freedom said it was OK
to feel... pain
to surrender... to addiction
to pray... for help
to ask... for strength

freedom brought a new reality
... happiness...
a love... for life
a love... for others
a love... for God
then... it came
a love... for myself

    Dave,
This is a very good work, and it is also a testimony to the freedom we all get when we courageously face our "demons".
    Best of life to you.

Well said my friend -- through loving God you learned to love yourself once more. That in itself can be considered recovery.
