Step One of AA says, "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable."
Can It Be True
can it be true
that I’m not like you
I lost the power to say
“I’ve had enough”
and be able to walk away
a couple of beers
may be enough for you
but a couple of cases for me
just won’t do…
fantasizing about my next beer
just can’t quit
a compulsion that brings fear
will I scream and hit
then apologize…
“I’m sorry, my dear.”
why can’t I love you…
and my booze
history has shown
with choices… you’d lose
maybe it is true
a life without alcohol
will keep me with you
but I’m still not sure what to do
you see… I’ve known alcohol
a lot longer then I’ve known you

I hear the struggle in this...

I have always considered myself lucky that I do not have an addictive personality and that I have never liked the taste of alcohol. Even having grown up in "the 60's" I got bored with anything after a few times of dabbling in it. The 12 steps have helped many and I know that if not for AA, many of my friends would no longer be alive. Very good write!!
